About Beverly...

Biography

Born in Portland, Oregon, Beverly has traveled extensively in the United States and abroad as a child. A prolific oil painter for over twenty-five years.

She credits her parents' Christian values and her own involvement with caring for the elderly later on, as reason for her sensitivity toward the world she lives in.

From her earliest childhood she has been fascinated by nature. For three years she lived in England, where the countryside and nearby Scotland left a lasting impression on the budding artist. The recognition and praise from family and art teachers grounded in her a sense of confidence.

Like a seed planted in rich soil, Beverly's talent began to grow. Today, as she intuitively transforms the rolling hills, fields, valleys and various animals into a landscape painting, a view from the past is revealed.

The seascapes are the result of Beverly's frequent trips to the north Eastern Shore, with Cape Cod undoubtedly her favorite. She says she inherited her love of the ocean and sea faring vessels from her father, who was a career Naval Officer. As one looks into one of her coastal paintings, they can imagine the artist being there.

To view Beverly's work as an oil painter, one is aware of a sensitivity and strength that is undoubtedly a reflection of who the artist is.

Beverly's Comments...

The ocean is a favorite for me. The edge of the sea is impetus for spontaneity in my work. I must go back periodically to tap the light, sound of the wind, and rush of the waves upon the shore.

Years ago my brother, Jim, invited me up to Cape Cod for a visit. That weekend opened up a new life experience and unveiled a fresh palette of colors that filled my canvas with intrigue and excitement. I know the love of the ocean I inherited from my father, but this "jewel at the edge of the Atlantic" I have personally come to love and respect.

As a friend of The Barnstable Land Trust organization, whose motto is and I quote: "Committed to the preservation of open space, water quality, scenic vistas and wildlife - forever", I continue to support them each year through donations of my artwork to the "Gifts from the Sea" auction. Also, participation in the Boston Flower Show as an on location exhibit painter for Bartlett Tree Experts reminds me of the many people concerned about the protection and preservation of the beauty around us.

Several times annually I return to a quiet spot in Cotuit, my away from home studio, and return to various locations along the Cape with my French easel and paint. Today, I am as excited about each new oil painting, from its initial plein-air development to completion, as I was with my first major work painted on Cotuit Bay many years ago.

Such oils as "Tomorrow We Will Sail" and "Homeward Bound" reiterate the mystery and intrigue the edge of the sea will always bring to me.
